I think is was before Christmas that someone posted some links to some Robert Sorby U Tube video's of some projects to make. As the title says one was a coffee scoop, so I thought I'd give it a go. The first problem I encountered was that my bowl gouge is not a small size, this made hollowing such a small bowl difficult. By going very slow and careful I managed as best I could. The other problem was a bowl scraper for rounded bottoms, again I over came this.

I know what tools I'll be getting on my next trip to Yandles.

Please critique as you see fit, I need all the help I can get.

Looks good Tony :)

I might have been tempted to add some decorative grooves on the handle, maybe three near the middle and one towards either end ? Could burn them in nice and dark with an offcut of formica or some wire or similar ?

Cheers, Paul

Thanks Paul, a good idea, as this is the prototype I'll add it to the next one.

A good job on the scoop. I agree with Paul on the decoration. Another thing I personally would change is the amount of the handle protruding into the scoop I would have a small amount and not as much as you have done.

Turning looks good and a very good project to have a go at.

Any updated pictures of round 2 waka? I personally am very impressed with attempt 1 aswell, lovely delicate scoop. Looks extremely thin lipped - great job

I too plan on replicating some of the sorby projects (when i get round to finish the million other jobs i have planned first.)

Simon

I worked on a couple this weekend, tomorrow I'll marry the two, bits together and post the picks.
I really enjoyed doing these, being a novice and not having all the right tools I'm quite pleased with the results.
