Hi, Arnold . Haven't heard from you for a while. No late night raves in Redruth, then?
Hi Phill Still here but sorry no rave ups. The nearest I get is a game of tennis in the evening.
Cheers ----- Arnold

With Joan Hunter Dunn?

BugBear
Hi Bugbear ----- No just with tennis raquets and balls
Cheers Arnold
ps Perhaps this is getting a bit off topic?

Just a test to confirm i'm uploading pics correctly, more pics to follow if successful.
A Mathieson, Varvill and as yet small unnamed plane.

Maybe a Mod or forum member could tell me how to update photos for all to see.
The test photo above states you need permission, is it blocked to non members?

The photo is blocked to those not logged in, but visible to any forum member logged in. As to how to make it visible to all, I'm afraid I can't help - not an expert with photos!

You have two jack planes and one smoothing plane, often called a 'coffin smoother' on account of it's shape. The jack on the left looks to have a very short iron, the middle one looks like it has quite a bit of useful length left in the iron. They all look in potentially usuable condition, but could do with a light clean. Replacement irons (often at quite reasonable prices) can be sourced if needs be - the specialist secondhand tool dealers often have plane parts available.

Thanks Cheshirechappie for replying no expert either on photos and its probably something simple or a staring me in the face answer.
The photo is before i cleaned them with a rag and turps and are now ready for a bit of Linseed oil.
While cleaning them i found that the Coffin plane wedge and iron actually belong in the top plane of the 3 in photo ( a Mathieson i believe from the mark i found on it, half moon with a star ?) the other Smoothing plane is a Summers Varvill and although no makers name on Coffin smoother i found a 'mark' which i will post another time.
I now have photos of all the planes from my carboot find and will upload soon.

As jimi43 said 'no photos it never happened' so here are a few of the 15 0r so i got for £5. Will post a few more later.

Sorry Steve...didn't get around to replying to your superb pictures of the marks.

Ok...the John Green is rubbish...I think 50p at the best...I'll give you 60p for it because I feel sorry for you!

Seriously...I love Iohn Green....one of the "other" ones (other than Angels that is) that I do go for when I feel tempted with the use of the particular example...like I did with my skewed rebate one...

The old Hull makers are worth collecting too and to be honest...if you were to sell individually (assuming they are all in nice nick) on FleaBay...then you are likely to get over a tenner each for these makers alone.

I doubt if you will be doing that though it you are anything like me...you will probably get the bug and buy more.

Let's put it this way...with the resurgence of popularity of these little gems...I think your investment will only rise in value and what a lovely way to save....whilst researching and using these old masterpieces.

Thanks for posting and look forward to some "action" pictures! 8)
