I’m talking about palm sanders here.

Is there any difference/advantage/disadvantage between using a palm sander with a circular disc as opposed to a square cut?

Cheers

Circular disc sanders will be orbital sanders with the disc held on by hook-and-loop. Square ones will be sheet sanders where the abrasive is held on with a clip arrangement. So with my DW sheet/palm sander I can just cut a length off my stock role, punch a few holes in it for dust extraction and fit it on.

The circular ones are usually random orbit sanders. The base goes round in little circles while at the same time rotating. (If that makes any sense at all!) they give s a smoother finish.

The square ones are (afaik) just orbital sanders and the base move in little circles but doesn't rotate. These can leave swirl marks.
