Does anyone have any recommendations on circular saws (bearing in mind that I can't afford a festool!). Is the Makita 5704RK a reasonable unit? It would mainly be used for cutting up plywood.

Also, just out of interest (and at the risk of hijacking my own thread) what is the difference between a plunge and pendulum saw?

Cheers

Alan

Hi Alan,

I'd like to suggest you consider one with a Blade Brake. Not many have them, but I have the Hitachi 7BU (was on offer at Axminster recently I think). It's a very good saw indeed and relatively quiet too. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the Festool has as well, although you'll need deeper pockets!.

cheers

Hi Alan
I have the makita 5604R slightly smaller and cheaper. Nice and light, easy for one hand use not much vibration and slices through plywood, 6x2 for decking etc with the blade supplied. Also cuts melamine chipboard without much splintering.
