I'm pretty sure I've seen something like that on a Maggi radial arm saw, once a certain resistance was exceeded (IE cut binding) it would cut the power.

I think some of the Metabo kit also works on a similar principle, I've definitely seen their angle grinder demos in person where the cut would bind and the grinder would shut off.

It would be interesting to know how many circular saw accidents still happen, I'm sure the cordless gear has probably cut down the numbers quite a bit since they pretty much stop dead once the power switch is deactivated.
