If you happen to read my hand tool review in the Christmas edition of Furniture & Cabinetmaking, I would like to point out a serious omission.

I failed to mention that many of the excellent hand tools featured are only available in the UK from Mike Hancock at Classic Hand Tools.

Mike takes great pains to find and stock good tools from all over the world. He then travels incessantly promoting them at woodworking shows.

If we do not support small specialist suppliers they will cease to exist, and the tool world will be a great deal poorer, with less choice.

I hope this post does not stretch the moderation rules, but I wish to make amends for my thoughtless and unintentional omission.

best wishes,
David Charlesworth

David - thanks for that, very droolworthy article =P~ by the way, the smoothers from NZ looked excellent and considering the quality of the engineering, probably represent quite good value if you're after a top endy plane - Rob

Can't argue with that sentiment. Suffice it to say that rather more followed me home from Needham Market on Saturday than the plane I went to swap out!

And then to share the joy, it was only right that I also support Matthew at WorkshopHeaven today (sorry, Mr Bank Manager)

Just when you think it is safe to make a decision, some other manufacturer comes up with another fascinating tool.

Joel, of Tools for Woodworking has produced a 19 TPI backed dovetail saw. (Not tried it yet).

His special brushes for shellac etc look and feel wonderful, but same comment applies.

I believe Philip Marcou will be looking for a customer for the S20A featured in my article. I will keep it safe and well oiled till then.

best wishes,
David
