Hello,

CHIPBREAKERS? please we're British! Whatever you call them, they will work wonders. Many happy returns.

Mike.

I recently added a Ray iles iron and a Clifton stay set to my record no6 and it works beautifully, also 100% happy.

Quite. The British are a nation of chip EATERS, not chip BREAKERS. (I prefer mine with a hint of salt and vinegar, and served with a hot pie. However, each to their own, of course.)

On cap-irons, I agree that the stay-set type is a very good way of getting improved performance from even a thin iron, by stiffening it up a bit. Echoing the comments above, I was surprised how much of a positive difference a Clifton cap-iron made to my Record 07.

rather old boy i am just happy to have spent the pounds shillings and pence i will now upgrade my set of record planes nos 3 to 8
all will have the new cap irons as i have now had chance to see for myself and i am totally satisfied with my purchases
