I am hoping to attempt my first Sam Maloof style low back chair and am looking for some interesting Cherry from which to make it. Ideally I am looking for some that is a fat 2" thick. Does anyone have any experience of buying some of this in the UK and can they point me in the right direction. Many thanks

Not sure if you intend to use European or American (Black) Cherry. I have bought American Cherry from Goodtimber, www.goodtimber.com and have been very pleased with it. They do up to 2". They are just south of Northampton so may be too far for you.

The best Am cherry I have ever seen was at Whitmore's near Hinckley. Again, not exactly on your doorstep, unfortunatley. But it was like the stuff you see in the gallery pages of Fine Woodworking. Beautiful stuff.
