Hi guys....I'm going to fit an exchange motor to my Startrite 14-S-1 bandsaw, to convert it from 3phase to single phase. The old motor looks to be in good condition, but there isn't a plate on it, so I don't know what size it is or what speed it runs at. Does anyone know the specs for this model?
If it helps...this is a timber-only bandsaw with a 14" throat width and 10" depth of cut. Originally manufactured as single speed (the timber saws mostly were) but has since been re-pulleyed to give 5-speeds.
Cheers...
Les

Originally the single speed saw would have had a 6 pole motor.
Now it has been modified only you can work out the motor speed.
As a guide you want about 3000 FPM on the top speed setting
Any faster will risk overheating the blade.

Morning Les

If you register on the Record Power site, you can search for manuals. I can't find your model, but the current equivalents seem to be there.

You could ask RP. I've always found them helpful.

Cheers

Dave

I have this model but a 5 speed from new ( 14-S-5)
Are you sure about changing the motor...fit an VFD (inverter) and you then have a fully variable speed bandsaw to cut almost any material you need

have you got 5 pulleys on your motor and drive shaft? or just on one?
