daren't do anything with my tank, even though it's inconvenient .

I daren't change mine either. It's metal 2300 ltr and built into a recess in my garage / workshop where the boiler is located also in an enclosure under a chimney, I get some heat from the boiler but would love to gain the oil tank space and re locate outside. the house was built in the 80s and you wouldn't be allowed to fit a tank into the garage these days and if outside I'd have to replace it with a bunded tank and the project as a whole would be pretty expensive.

Interestingly, before I bought the house in 1987 it had a fire which burned the roof off the garage and utility but also burned the sight gauge and plastic filler pipe off the tank and severely charred the supporting timbers underneath between the tank and blockwork supports. The tank was 1/3rd full of oil which didn't burn so I guess it demonstrates that it's most inflammable when atomised.
