cat5 connectors

I want to cut some cat5 cable and add connectors etc. Is this cheap kit on ebay good enough?
What's the difference cat5 and cat5e?

Network support - CAT 5 cable will support 10/100 Ethernet. That is, Ethernet and Fast Ethernet. CAT 5e cable will support Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet. CAT 5e Cable is completely backwards compatible, and can be used in any application in which you would normally use CAT 5 cable.

Less cross talk - Cross talk is the electrical interference that results when one wire's signal effects another wire's signal. CAT 5e cable has been improved over CAT 5 cable in this respect, and cross talk has been greatly reduced.

Bandwidth - This is directly related to network support, in the sense that the bandwidth is the information-carrying capacity of a system. The greater the bandwidth, the greater the information-carrying capacity in a given period of time. CAT 5e cable is rated at 350 megahertz, and it is this increased bandwidth that allows it to support Gigabit Ethernet.

Stripping and cutting to correct length is key the better kit does this you measure and cut with eBay but it will crimp fine. Have you looked at premade cables there not that expensive.

Getting the correct pairs in the right order is very important, we had some that where wired wrongly causing a split pair which resulted in intermittent network problems.

While renovating my house I installed CAT 5e cable and RJ45 sockets everywhere with a patch panel under the stairs. I also started making my own patch cables but found it really wasn't worth the effort as they are so cheap anyway from places like Screwfix, Toolstation and ebay.

If you're going to be doing it a lot of this sort of thing it's worth getting a cable tester which can be had for £10 or so.

Just to second Pete's comments, I used to do a lot of work in that field and was called out to countless sporadic network issues caused by the colour coding not being followed. Just because you have continuity doesn't mean it will work - the correct pairs is critical.

When my house was rewired I carefully installed extra telephone cabling and ethernet in the chased trunking, as well as aerial coax and mains.

But I use a DECT phone and wireless internet
