Hi all,

Thinking of making moveable bandsaw stand. Want to keep it low and quiet. I see 50mm rubber castors rated at 40kg each. I am not sure if the load is spread over the 4 castors as my bandsaw id 75kg. Would 4 of these do ?

Regards

Yes, 4 would take 180kg. But you may find small wheels are difficult to push about.

Thanks for reply. You think I should go larger in wheel size then ?

Size ???

Regards

i would also go for hard castors- rubber, if not moved regularly can be a pain with flat spots.

I already have a stand supplied with the machine, of the type where you lift one end on the saw and the other ends wheels make contact with the ground. This has hard plastic wheels which I find hard work to move across my, admittedly, not to smooth, concrete garage floor !!

Hi Skronk,

If you already have the base for the machine why don't you just buy the wheeled kit for the base. This has four wheels and a foot pedal that you press down to move then press again to put the stand firmly on the ground with the wheels lifted.

Fancied making a box type base with doors or drawers. Plenty cheap castors on the bay.

Still waiting to hear from Record Power, despite email again today.

Still no replacement table and no info regarding bent blade guard. No more Record Power for me I think. Very poor product / service.. :( :(

Hi,

Rubber wheels are more forgiving than plastic on workshop floors they will ride over small bits of debris and bumps without jamming.
Some cheap rubber wheels will develop flat spots if left stationary for long periods with heavy loads, but this will not be a issue with good quality rubber castors.

If ordering braked castors ensure that they are braked both on the wheel & the swivel. I found out the hard way ordered some "braked" castors, fitted them without checking and the machine rotated all over the place 8-[

I have my Planer/Thicknesser, Saw Table, Drill Stand & Bench all are on 50 m/m braked rubber wheeled castors and they move well over my somewhat lumpy floor. Even got the Dust extractor on them! Bandsaw arrives Saturday :) & that will go straight on Rubber Castors

The following link may be of use there is a simple weight calculator for castors, as technically it is not a straight forward multiplication of castor weight capacity x 4 (for example) They also sell good & reasonably priced castors

Probably too late for you now but may be useful in the future
