I have got a Mazda 2 with one of those door keys where you push a button to operate door locks.

I am having to push the open button numerous times to get an operation to open door.

Do these things have a battery life?

Also one door sometimes does not lock without numerous operations.

Any knowledge of these things here please?
 
As philip.p said but it's doubtfull that a low battery would affect one of the doors differently from the others as the central locking mechanism operates all the doors equally. Sounds as if that one might have a sticky mechanism.

I had similar on my Mazda 5 and googled replacing the battery - not too hard and saved a fortune - got a replacement for £1 at - you guessed it, the Poundshop!
And it did solve the weird intermittent problem.

I have one of the old style Mazda 2's and have replaced the remote battery more than once now. Mine has a CR2032 battery - the bigger coin cell type and I just used a screwdriver to prise the 2 bits of plastic apart.

My car is getting older now and I find I have to be very close to it to open or lock it (not the battery as I've tried that) but I've never had a problem where 1 door won't open or lock.
 
when your battery's running down in your remote key(fob) stick it under your chin whilst you press the button - it amplifies the transmission signal. Honest. No it does really, try it.

I'd forgotten that one. I've tried it before , and it works.
 
Thanks for those replies,, I tried to open the fob but its a real secret one on mine.

I telephoned the local Mazda dealer and said how do you do it.

Spring open the key out of the fob and inside the key cavity there is a lug to squeeze with a small screwdriver etc.etc.

He said bring it in and we charge £4.50 for the battery no charge to fit. (he did state the battery would be cheaper at the pound shop)
 
None of this worked for me.

That's how I found out why there were five spare, broken remotes on the key-ring, when I bought the car. The Volvo fob has a habit of expiring. So now I don't bother. (Anyhow it's £70.00 + VAT for a new one) I use the key to open and lock the car. The only disadvantage is that when I have forgotten to lock the car, and it's raining, I can't lock it from the porch or the bathroom window!!
