Hi guys

Picked this up form the stalls at local steam show today, its a thing of beauty made almost solidly of brass/bronze and very heavy, no expense spared as MOD. I think it would have been removed from a submarine or boat in the 90's as my dad used to buy this stuff by the pallet from Mod auctions always heavily engineered and in the same light blue paint, but he has been gone 8 years so I cant ask him.

some research would suggest it was made by george kent LTD,

its clearly something to do with direction and a first glance would suggest a compass due to the gimbal mounts. But its not actually free moving and under the cap with the bath plug chain on there is a spigot that when spun changes the position of the dial.

So it would suggest that its an indicator of which direction and item is pointing in, think periscope navel gun ect,

so any ideas? what do the letters mean? why would it be on a gimbal if not a free floating compass?

Sorry about the crap quality...

some more research would suggest its a gyro compass repeater, used for finding true north rather than magnetic north....

the plot thickens

well you figured that one out for yourself. :D

yep bearing repeater, normally mounted outside on a bridge wing. may or may not be MOD (they are usually stamped as such) but a fine old chuck of steel and brass. looks like it has a power port so it'll light up although it may work on a funny marine voltage.
