So on monday I made an almost 400 mile round trip to pick up my new to me Hegner lathe, and what a beauty it is! but more on that later.

the lathe came with every tool you could imagine and most of it I have been able to identify apart from this object.

So I am guessing it came from Hegner as the paint colour is the same and it appears to come with 2 plates that are very similar but with a different sized v shape cut out.

And a clamping arrangement of some description.

but thats about it

Any ideas?

I can't see all the pictures and this is only a guess, but could it be a steady, for long, thin work?
The clamp bit fits onto the bed so that one or other V rests behind the work, just rubbing against it. It then stops the work from flexing away from the cutting tool.

While a steady is the most likely but could it just be to hold an existing turning close and parallel to the bed to use as a pattern when duplicating more spindles by eye?
