My fujifilm bridge camera has packed in. The zoom doesn't work and camera says turn off and turn on again, which doesn't work. It was about 150 quid from argos and had a 2 year warranty which finished in July.

Anyone ever used any of the numerous online repair services? Will probably post to fujifilm uk as they say they will quote to repair cameras out of warranty but wondered if anyone had any experience or reccommendations?

I would not mind betting the repair cost would be way more than its worth. Look on e bay for a replacement. Or London camera exchange if you want someone more honest. Their 2nd hand kit is usually a fair price.

Have to agree with Lurker - I'd be amazed if a repair was economically viable on a 2 1/2 year-old camera. I had a Canon Ixus that died after 13 months and the repair costs were more than I paid for the camera originally; put me off Canon ever since tbh.

Bottom line: your Fuji cost you £5/month. That £5/month will buy you something *much* better going forwards...

I had a2 year old fuji, had a problem with zoom lense, emailed them saying it was a gift so had no proof of purchase and they repaired FOC

Send it back to Fuji. As others have said it's probably uneconomic to repair, but Fuji might repair or replace it cheaply, or possibly offer you a substantial discount off a newer model.

Under the sale of goods act, I would expect it to last at least 3 years. Argue with Argos, and possibly your credit card company if appropriate.

I had a look after posting. Fuji say they repair fixed price of 60 quid. Or I can buy the newer model with higher megapixels and zoom from argos for 80 quid. So I will buy a new one and repair the old one when possible for a spare or for girlfriend to use.

Thanks for all responses. Will post how my dealings with fujifilm turn out.

Merry christmas.

LC is a good firm too.

Daughter's Canon G12 lens got badly scratched. Design fault in the camera case and lens cover. We have an excellent local repairer, but in the end it had to go back to Canon (he's qualified/approved, but it's not a 'professional' camera, apparently). They didn't just replace the front element, but the whole lens assembly, including the motors, etc.

Total cost: 140 quid, plus about 15 quid at the local shoemender getting the case modified and re-stitched. It won't do it again, but it should never have done it in the first place!

Alternative was a 400 quid piece of scrap.

Not impressed, but that's the way of things these days, it seems.
