You do not need a large solid lump of wood.
Make yourself a Torsion Box out of 25mm timber and fill with sand.

Couple of joist offcuts on edge with a board across? Or concrete blocks ditto.

Try googling padstones Ewan. Fair degree of accuracy in production. Just another option. You could adjust small height differences with mdf etc layers if necessary in between. Easy peasy solution but not free as the above suggestions (if you dont mind a bit of skipdipping).
