Hi all,

Im building a cake stand (like this h t t p://w w w .thehouseofsmiths.c o m /2011/08/diy-stenciled-cake-stand.html) for the wife's cake business and was wondering where i could get some wood or mdf (about 9 inches sq) where the edges have already been routered for the top of the stand like in the image?

[Sorry, had to put spaces in the URL as it wouldnt let me post it]

Any ideas? Many thanks in advance!

you would need to get somebody to rout this for you, i cant think where you would be able to buy it like that. how many are you making?

Argggg thats what i was hoping to avoid :(

I just wanted to make 2 :)

Guess ill have to either try and find someone or hire it from HSS (although they charge a lot so better of buying a ready made stand!!)

how thick do they need to be? 1/2"

i doubt that it would be worthwhile to hire a router and buy a cutter for 2.

if i have a cutter in the set that i bought i could probably do you couple of pieces at 9" square if you cant find anybody local.

the alternative is to stick a beading to mdf, having mitred the corners, but that way you still need to get the mdf, and the beading and it probably wouldn't look as good unless it was perfect.

Some great suggestions marcros, many thanks! ive managed to find a timber merchant in the area so gona go pay him a visit and see if i get lucky, if not, ill definitely have to take up your suggestions.

if you don't get lucky, i can quite probably do them, but it will probably be the weekend or next week when i get the opportunity. in reality, the merchant will probably need to charge you a lot to make it worthwhile for their time.
