A friend asked me if I would make something as a 50th birthday gift. The recipient is very difficult to buy for, and is a rugby fan.
I have a fair amount of spalted beech, much of which is set aside for pen blanks. I had an off-cut though which was just too short for pens.
Ball & pen are from the same timber source, and the base is iroko.

I hollowed the ball for the sake of postage, and it makes a possible place to keep small items.

Ha ha ha... no danger Chief. I don't revisit anything these days, I'd be sure to kill it.
I am totally un-artistic, so wouldn't even try drawing/painting them on.

I like as they are very Unique well thought of and well presented well done
Regards
Bill

Cheers Bill. I can see a multitude of faults in it, but then again I am my own worst critic.
The chunk of spalted beech is some of the best looking timber I have ever worked with and allows a lot of "artistic license" in the piece. The person who asked me to make it is over the moon, and can't wait to present it even though the recipient's birthday is almost 2 months away.
