Well when I finished in my workshop just before Christmas I didnt plan on going back until the new year but my son had other ideas.

Whilst my wife went shopping with my daughter we had a boys day and I offered to take James Fishing, Bowling, etc but do you know what he asked to do??

Go to my workshop for the day! Mainly so he could put the new tools he got for Christmas into his bench and give them a try

First he spent time trying his new Mitre Saw & the fine tooth blade

Next was how to get the best from his Zona Gents Saw

After that was time spent sharpening and learning how to use his cabinet scraper

Followed by sharpening and lapping the backs of his new Narex Chisels

The some planing practice with his No4 having christened his Tenon Saw

And finally had a play with the Scheppach Scroll Saw recently bought from Dan (Goldeneyemonkey)

All in all a very enjoyable day - Hes now laying on the sofa fast asleep though - Did I wear him out for once??

Happy New Year Everyone

V.cool, what age is he? Mine is only 6 months old but he already likes coming in my workshop as long as I don't start any machinery.

He was 10 in November - Admittedly he has got computer games but the tools were all things he put on his own Christmas List

I try to keep my son out! To him cleaning up is something his mother does! :(

Roy.

Spring! And the young man's fancy turns lightly to thoughts of....woodworking?

Fantastic. I wish I had someone in the family to take after.
I just have to figure things out myself
brings a tear to my eye!
You should be very proud

.......
best saw for dovetails? gents?

Personally I use a small Japanese handsaw but I have got to say that the little Zona Gents saw I got for James is a really nice little saw and cuts very crisp/clean dovetails

Yes I agree with Blister, Axminster basically is a one stop shop, but there are also other specialist tools suppliers like Matthew at Workshop Heaven.

Personally I would not recommend Rutlands having received some very poor service from them in the past, received items which were not as I ordered, inferior steel rules once instead of the quality ones in the catalogue, and a power tool which had previously been returned by another customer as damaged broken - How do I know this? - It still had his previous individuals letter of complaint in the box with it and upon return they had obviously just put on the shelf ready to dispatch again without even checking it! despite this they still didn't want to refund me!

Admittedly I havn't ordered anything from them for probably 15 years so maybe they have changed
