I am thinking of making a table with breadboard ends (not till next year when the sun shines) if I glue the ends in place using biscuits isn't there a chance of the top splitting as the wood expands/contracts?

yes- glue and peg the centre tenon, and put the others in an elongated hole (no glue)

i dont suppose that you have to peg them. Centre mortice tenon, tight fit and glued, others elongated width mortices to allow for movement, no glue. Personally I like to see the pegs.

I like the look of pegs too, however SWMBO says no pegs [-X [-X [-X so no pegs it will be my dearest.
