Bowl for wedding rings

This past summer the blond and I were up to the Port Hardy on the very north end of Vancouver Island and my brother in law gave me 4--12" by 16" logs of yew and some other stuff, theoretically pear and 4-16" x16"x 4" blocks of grey weathered wood we thought might be birdeye maple or something similar. Anyway back to Alberta and I had been asked to make a bowl for the wedding ring bearer to carrry the rings in(instead of the pillow thingy) and so I thought I would use one of these blocks. Anyway planed and cut one of the blocks down to 14"x14"x 3 1/2" so I could do some off center work on it.Anyway enough babbling. Here is the result and does anyone know what the wood is? Also ,critique away.One WIP as well, although out of order!

I have no idea what the wood is - but the end result is lovely.

nice original item, and i'd guess at maple but youve got more foreign type trees over there so it may be something native to canada that us brits wouldnt recognise easily?

I did see some Amboyna Burl out at Bow River Specialty woods in Chilliwack at 15$ per pound but it seems a little exotic to be left in a campground in Port Hardy. My brother in law bought the campground and these pieces were in the firewood pile in the old house on the property!
