Stockholm tar has been used on wooden boats ever since boats were made. Its still used extensively in Scandinavia & elsewhere less so on traditional boats. I used to mix it into Boat soup, a mix of boiled linseed, turpentine, stockholm tar & cuprinol, good stuff for putting some life back into an old wooden boat & slows drying cycles on timber.
Stockholm tar also great for use as a rigging & rope preservative & makes a great anti seize compound on shackles or bolts underwater. Plus it smells wonderful!

The first question that should be asked is: Is it listed. If so, then EH/NT should be your first phone call. If not listed, phone them anyway, they may advise what paint/treatment, you need to apply. As has been said before, B&W was Victorian. Oak will go silver if left with no treatment.

Pine tar mixed with turpentine, linseed oil and pigments make a beautiful paint. The Finns also makes shampoo with it. Smells lovely.
