This started as an "I wonder if" and it turns out that I can.

TestBullet9mm_zpsdda5bacc.jpg

The bullet itself is walnut, 9mm dia (obviously) with 10mm visible and a 7.5mm dia spigot at 5mm long into the casing.
Casing is oak (which turned out to be a poor choice as grain lifted) and is 10mm dia at 20mm long. All features are present and correct.

Might make more of these and sell as keyring bits!

Now I know what people mean when they talk about ammunition grain... .

Nice work.

(Next thing you'll be calling your lathe a revolver... I'll get me coat.)

Theres a joke in there somewhere involving headstocks and tailstocks and gunstocks....

Thanks for the comments :)
Already had a friend asking for a .45 as a keyring (and thus need to find dimensions of this) and a 12 gauge shell, of which I have a few spent ones.

Will be using sycamore or beech I think, and have toyed with the idea of using a plug cutter to make the rounds first.
Also a collet as the shell bit won't fit in my smallest closing jaws for drilling the mortice side of things.
