Noticed some 3mm round holes in an old laburnum log but when bark stripped off found a 10mm white grub with a holes in the sapwood. Lving in a modern house up to now I have not had to get familiar with wood boring insects in the UK, though I guess everyone knows and fears woodworm and death watch beetle.

Any ideas what these things are and will they eat my shed?

I found a little bug thing just this afternoon! It was quite a lucky little thing as i found it whilst making a lid for a box! (in the edge!) I took some pics. I chucked out the work piece, do you recon I should chuck out the rest of the wood?

Put any suspect wood in the freezer for a few days, that'll kill them off.

Once they've tasted your ice cream they never eat wood again anyway..

hope you didnt chop the poor devils head off

the laburnum i had was riddled with holes in the sap but they didnt touch the heartwood

adidat

Probably a beetle larvae.

I am not suggesting this is one but a stag beetle larvae lives in the wood as a grub for several years before emerging as a beetle.

Getting quite rare now.
