Hi All,

I am contemplating making a 5ft * 5ft round patio table, but only intend on doing so if I can make it cheaper than I can buy one. The passion for making stuff has gone, unless it saves me money.

So, I am trying to understand what is a good cost effective hardwood that I could use, and what the current square foot cost is for sawn boards.

Thanks

A good chance you will not simply because of the economy of scale, a lot of us make stuff for the enjoyment and pleasure of making something even if it does cost more, something you have said you don't want to do.

I brought a nice cast alloy table and four chairs at a large RHS Garden show because I did not want wood simply because of it's maintanance needs.
