Alf,

I had a look at your scribers (from your website) and I have been using one of those old fashioned wooden ones with the pins in it

I have found these very unfriendly to use, as the pin is to long and therefore in acurate (wobble), I mostly use the single pin for lay-out.

So which of your scribers canyou recommand and why

Thanks
McLuma

I'll hazard a guess and assume we're talking marking gauges and their brethren here? What you need to do is take a file or stone (depending on hardness) and turn the pin into a - much shorter - knife. Like this, more or less. Those folks who have read David Charlesworth more recently than I can probably go into it in more depth. :D Personally I prefer the wheel gauge type; much easier to use. By chance I've just finished a review of them which can be found on the Tool Reviews board. Of the wooden variety, a cutting gauge is easier to use across the grain fwiw. That should be a start anyway, no time for more at the minute.

Cheers, Alf
