After a couple of coats of Osmo oil on my hardwood ply topped bench, what hard wax should I use for a good tough finish please?

Alex

Given the use a bench gets, I wouldn't consider a wax finish, of any kind, "tough". Bench finishing is also a compromise - too slick and your work skids all over the place, no finish at all and glue spatter is rather hard to remove.

You don't need a finish on a work bench. Though I do occasionally wipe over with linseed oil after a clean up, as it makes glue drips easier to remove.

Thanks for the advice.

So, is the oil sufficient now, just add a little as the bench surface wears and gets marked?

Alex

Yeah. that should be fine. Enjoy your bench!

The students refinish the benches once a year, we tend to use up what is in the finishing cabinet Danish oil, Osmo but only if its getting a bit past it. We don't wax them as said before they maybe to slippy. Linseed is very traditional and we use this on most of the tools we make as it just seems right.
