Thanks folks, this is all good knowledge.

Of course I've ignored everyone!

I must say I'll probably end up using the band saw for the majority of things, I've just fitted some Tufnol block guides which now actually guide the blade instead of letting it waggle about freely as supplied. A world of difference.
