bench grinder advice

Hi,

Need some advice on buying a bench grinder mainly for sharpening my lathe chisels, nothing expensive as I'm on a tight budget. I've seen a 150mm grinder for £20 on screwfix http://www.screwfix.com/p/energer-enb51 ... 240v/93157
Im not sure if its any good or not but that's the kind of price I would like to pay

I have a 250w Clarke one for sale, £10. The wheels could ideally do with replacing but could be dressed down if you're on a tight budget. It's up in Blackburn, I should be back up there at some point in the next week or so.

Hi

It will be fine, (basic but fine ), for what you need if you are prepared to make a dedicated adjustable rest and a fingernail jig, ( dead easy and plenty of plans and examples on t'internet).

It has limited 'upgrade' potential due to the wheel thickness - I'd consider 16mm to be rather thin and would suggest trying to get something with the capacity for wider wheels, (25mm if you can).

I've been using one of those for 5 years to sharpen my tools, does the job As said you can knock up a platform and jig for next to nothing and off you go!
