I intend to buy a Sorby Pro-Edge Sharpening System.I can remember a while back,someone had sourced out a cheaper supplier ,for high quality belts ,in the UK,Could anyone on this forum help me were I can source out ,these belts.

bnd abrasives. if you have a search, you will probably find the full spec of the belts ordered.

Unless you plan to use a lot, then it might be worth doing a post to see if anybody wants any. There is a minimum of 10 or 12 per grit, so sharing the postage can be useful. Quite often people want 3 or 4 of a couple of grits and it saves you having to order 5 years worth yourself.

When I last purchased from BND (early 2016) these were the prices.

* SIA 2515 siabite y HD Ceramic 60 grit. ** min 12 £53.56 (£4.47ea)
* SIA 2511 siabite y Ceramic 120 grit min 12 £31.38 (£2.62ea)
# SIA 2546 siabite JJ Ceramic 220 grit min 12 £28.86 (£2.40ea)
# SIA 2820 Zirc 320 grit min 12 £24.22 (£2.02ea)
# Trizact A45 (P400 grit) min 6 £31.97 (£5.30ea)
* Trizact A30 (P800 grit). min 6 £31.97 (£5.33ea)

So far the most used grit on HSS turning tools has been the 120 grit, recently started on my second belt.

My experience so far has been:-

If you need to do a lot of re-profiling quickly with minimum heat:-
SIA 2515 siabite y HD Ceramic 60 grit.

Normal everyday quick touch up of cutting edge:-
SIA 2511 siabite y Ceramic 120 grit.

For finesse of edge for the most delicate of finishes:-
SIA 2546 siabite JJ Ceramic 220 grit.

Other users may have different grit size preferences or grit types to suit their turning or because of purchase cost versus longevity of grit balance.

In my experience with the type of turnings I do going to finer grits refines the edge but is just a waste of time as the finessed edge is gone in a second, finer grits also means a lot more care is necessary to avoid overheating of cutting edge.
