I am looking to buy a belt/disc sander at the end of the month to replace the rubbish one I have at the moment. I have looked at a couple of Axy models but the reviews were not good. At the top of my list at so far is the Jet JSC-96, which has a 6inch wide belt and a 9inch disc. By the time I buy spare belts and disc I will be looking at over £500 to pay out of my hard earned money. I was wondering if there is anything better out there for the same sort of money. It's main use will be smoothing hardwood after it has been planed and putting rounds on square corners of wood 3/4 inch thick. Many thanks in advance.

Worth checking the jet price elsewhere on the net as well as axi to make sure you are getting a good price. It seems to be not unusual to find kit ten, twenty or thirty percent cheaper than axi these days!

If you google for abrasives suppliers and order your belts and discs from a specialist you will likely save a packet too, although you may have to take a few to meet minimum order sizes.

Cheers, Paul

That JET model looks quite good except the table for the belt is mounted quite high reducing capacity a little. Not sure how easy belt changing is on that one but it was a pain on the Axminster one at work. It wasn't all that clever on my Record Power BDS250 but I've heavily modified mine now and I can change belts without undoing anything. In fact I can even change belts whilst it's running. On the subject of belts make sure you only buy the butt joined "taped" belts, the scarfed joint ones aren't very nice to use.

Edit: This one has some good reviews.
