Hi all, I'm in Somerset at sparkford. Having just secured some internet access at the caravan park, I was browsing for places to go. Turns out I'm 11 miles from Yandles! My girlfriend is into card making and stuff. So we can go!! What do the forum think of the place? Is it decent pricewise? Any info would be good. Cheers all.

I've heard good things said about it, and it's on my list of places to visit if ever I'm in the area...

If I need something specific for a project then I will sometimes drive 3hrs to go to Yandles (from West Wales) as it’s the closest place I have with such a variety and choice (that I’m aware of atleast). The prices are not too bad, but even better on show days when they often give you 15% off all timber. Its my favourite timber yard that I’ve visited so far.

We went today. Pleasant enough drive to get there. Vast selection of turning blanks at OK prices. The model wheels were a bit pricy though. I very nearly spent £69 on a set of saw tooth forstner bits. But my lady had already spent a lot in the craft shop!

A good family company, very friendly service and an excellent mail order service. I usually attend their spring fair but there is another one in the autumn, early September time I think. It’s nearly 600 miles round trip for me, but I love the spring shaw and I put up with the travell8ng once a year. I rate it as the best wood yard I’ve been to, but I’ve not been to many suppliers of this size. I don’t think it’s particularly cheap, but then it’s not overly expensive either when compared with other yards I’ve visited. Good timber discount on show days! It has a far better choice of boards than most other places I’ve been, and is friendly to the small hobby purchaser. This is not always the case with other woodyards. Just go. You know you want to!

Never been there but used their online service a few times, always been very happy with the items and their service.

I'd definitely go!

Yandles have two major advantages over Axminster:

1. They sell sewing and craft accessories,
2. They have an excellent tea room.

Both of these come in really handy on the occasions I'm down that way...

Seriously, catering for the distaff side is a jolly good idea: full marks to Yandles management for doing it. I love Axminster's shop (in Axminster itself), but it really does need at least a cafe, and there's nowhere for my better half to keep herself entertained, whilst I browse. It's probably unfair to say they've lost business because I can't get permission for a visit, but Yandles are definitely the other way round, "Let's just get a cup of tea and a cake, dear, on the way home..."

In case that's not enough on its own, Lyme Regis isn't far away (and the rest of the Jurassic coast, of course), so one can make a proper "balanced" trip of it.

Important thing, marital harmony...

There are not many things I miss since moving from Somerset to Scotland - but Yandles is one of them! Don't know if this helps
