Hi,

My brother is working on the home farm and has asked me to make some barn doors for him for an old court yard shed.

I dont know if you can see the picture of the shed/doors in the below link, but the shed is almost identical to what he has, and the doors he wants are also as per the picture.

He plans to paint the doors red and have black hinges. My long winded question:
Could anyone advise the best type of timber to use for frame and cladding?

If it were me I would get some decent quality slow grown redwood. If they are going to be painted and well maintained, have incorporated all the usual drip bars etc that would be absolutely fine.

Made a similar set last year from standard building grade softwood, well treated with decking oil and they still look fine.

Thanks for both replies!
Going to inquire about redwood from suppliers (Ireland), but not sure how many are operating at the minute or if they will sell to public as opposed to trade.
