Australia aren't wildly bothered about exporting natural product because its not their problem. They are however extremely ansi about anything coming in over their borders for obvious reasons of biological control (cf mice, rabbit, cane toad, crown of thorns starfish plagues....all unwanted arrivals).

Having said that I would always check on their foreign office website or airline controls to review restrictions

Correct me if I am wrong but the Perth referred to is the Scottish one? Don't think there are too many problems up there with import export............yet LOL

My other half is in Perth OZ at the moment I asked her to look out for some and bring a couple back she cant find none I was reading on an OZ forum you can pick them up at the side of the road somewhere north of Perth but seemingly you would be committing an offence.

Alan,

http://www.woodworkforums.com/ is an Oz forum I occasionally view.
There will be someone on there that can answer your question - banksia nuts are a pain the a** to turn dusty and an irritant.
The alternative is to bring Oz woods back. My understanding is that if it has no bark or holes, shakes etc its OK to import.

Hi Mick,Just read your link rules must be different for companies importing exotic timber from all over the world then as compared to indivduals Mind you we have Ash dieback caused by imports from europe so I do Agree with the need for rules somtimes.

Hi

Importers certify the status of the materials and thus comply with UK regulations - this is not practical for individuals hence the prohibition.

Buy a nut, (just one), from one of the UK suppliers - wear a face mask when you turn it, it will fire grit, seed and cone fragments at you - put it down to experience

Regards Mick
