I’ve a startrite 14-S-1 (with a 5 step pulley on the way). I’m thinking of swapping out the 3ph motor for a 1ph one that I have to hand; it’s 2.2Kw... is there any reason not to fit this motor to this saw? It fits and is £0, so any related reasons not to are irrelevant.

Presuming you have a good supply.
Is the shaft the same size, and the motor pole number which amounts to RPM the same?
The frame size and mounting type might have be taken to account for a direct swap.
I.e foot mounted, face mounted or flange mounted.
I'm sure some others will comment on that.

As I said, the motor fits; no issues with mounting etc.

same poles (2), different shaft but I have an appropriate pulley to fit the new motor.

The Record BS400 uses a 2Kw motor and the SIP uses a 2.2Kw motor and looking at the startrite 14-S-1 it appears to be of similar size so you just need to look at the motor you have and ensure the speed is ok, apart from that it should be good to go but also fit a decent DOL starter.
