Bandsaw Blades

Hi folks,

I'm taking delivery of my first bandsaw tomorrow and from all I've read the stock blade will not be very good.

Any advice regarding blades will be appreciated. I don't plan on doing much in the way of re-sawing yet, though that will be a thing in the future. I initial plan on cutting curves, sweeping ones at first but getting tighter as I learn.

Tuffsaw Blades website has closed down for a while. Are there any other blade manufacturers that people would recommend?

Axminster - make their own and my experience with 3 or 4 different widths/pitches has been good.

Tuffsaws is mentioned on another thread, things should be OK. Axi ground blades are fine but probably out of stock.

Ive went for the most part with axminster blades, but had a local place make some up and they were OKish. That is once they finally got the right length They actually messed that up 3 times, which is a pain in the buttocks fitting, finding it wrong then having them replace it. Im beginning to think they dont actually like me

Currently using ones from Ebay - eg 4 Bandsaw Blades 88" ( 2235mm ) x 1/2" x tpi Wood / Metal cutting | eBay
I bought a pair at 4tpi for some deep ripping of 5" maple and it cut fine, though a little jerky. I'll be buying more from them, this time 14tpi to cut some banding so its as clean as i can get it due to being a very small section i cant dress them after.
No long term use review, but they fit and dont wander or rattle so in my book thats a good blade

Would be interesting to know who has tried blades from a selection of suppliers? I've only had Record blades, then tried Tuff Saws, M42 and I think they are really great, but it would be good to have some kind of comparison.

Well the Record blades are really good providing you never want to cut a straight line, so ok for curves a wigly cuts.

I've gone back to Axminster because I've had 5 Tuffsaw blades break on my small 10" bandsaw.

Send him an email and keep an eye on the site. If you tell him/ask what you need he is very helpful and will get back to you quickly. I have always found his blades very good. There is also spur side saw works but I have never used them.

Spur side saws do m42 but the teeth are designed for metal, i dont know how good they would be.

Most suppliers out there seem to use the same stamped blade stock so a blade from Tuffsaws, Beverstock or even Axminster standard will all be the same blade.

The only different blade stock I have found is the Axminster Ground tooth and it's excellent, much better than Tuffsaws IMO and cheaper too. They are not great at keeping stock in though it might help if more of us bought them.

Yes but they are incredibly expensive and rather specialist as compared to the Axi GT blades.

EDIT FOR CLARITY: The diamond ground blades sold by Tuffsaws are not the same thing as the Axi GT blades. They are a more specialist blade.

I guess if you want a diamond ground blade you are going to pay more. If it cuts better/longer that suits me. Plus my bigger saw is custom length.
I have had too many very poor experiences with Axminster in the last couple of years, I wont use them anymore unless I have absolutely no choice.

Except the Axi (diamond) GT blades are cheaper than Tuffsaws standard stamped blades, they cut better and last longer (In my experience). I am not sure if they will make a custom size though. I've not had an Axi blade break but I have had 2 Tuffsaws blades break and I have had the wrong size delivered twice.

Tuffsaws seems to have gained some mythical status on forums, I can't understand it. They are just standard stamped blades, the same as those available under many other names.

I try to stay away from forum discussions but just curious as to which of my blades are much more expensive compared like for like to the Axminster ones. Genuinely not looking to get involved in a who's blades are better type of discussion but would be interested to know about the pricing if you don't mind please?
