Hi

A few months ago I put a TuffSaw 5/8" blade in a Record Power BS300.
It has been used as a hobby machine, perhaps one whorkshop session a fortnight for about 5 months. The performance has been fine, but a couple of days a ago, the blade snapped. I wasn't even cutting at the time, it was free running.

Is a snapping blade a sign of gereral wear & tear, and to be expected, or is this a case of taking it up with TuffSaws.

I am a new to owning a Bandsaw, however I spent a lot of time setting up, and believe the tensioning was correct.

Any advice?

Thanks

Tim

Where did the break occur, at the weld, at the tooth root/bottom of the gullet?
If at the root are there any signs of cracks starting in other places.
Was there any sign/sound of blade vibrating before the break?

Hi CHJ

There was no vibration / noise.
The break appears to be at the wled, no visible cracking.

Attached photo to show break.

Thanks

Sounds like work hardening/failing/defect propagation of/in the weld, have a word with Ian.

Lots of talk of snapped blades from Tuffsaws on here as well as how well they cut. Conclusion is they use a hard steel which takes a good edge but not as flexible as some. There is always a compromise to make.
