I've placed several small orders with Axminster tools recently that I almost certainly wouldn't have placed if it wasn't for the £1 postage. Great service as usual and quick delivery. I hope they can manage to continue with this rate but if it does have to go up I hope it doesn't go up too much.

I wouldn't object to say £1.95 for small orders if needed, what do you folks think?

i think that it is fair to say that I have placed several orders that would have gone elsewhere if it wasn't for the £1 postage.

other orders, for bits and pieces, I have placed elsewhere because the cost overall was lower.

Axminster are not and never have been the only place that I look, and whilst the service is very good, I don't need to pay for excellent customer service on a bit of sandpaper etc.

I would not normally use Axi just for a few bits of consumable items as we have a Tool Station, Screwfix, B & Q, and Wickes quite close to hand here in Redditch. However, I appreciate that for people who live further afield there may not be the choice of options that I have here.
Most of my Axi orders tend to be over the £50 free postage mark, so I may stick on a few consumables to bring it up to that level if I need to.
I am very lucky in that I have Axi at Nuneaton within 30 minutes drive as well so if I fancy a bit of a potter I'll go over there for a couple of hours, ( think big kid in sweetshop!!!! ).
I once had a back order from Axi of a couple of drill bits that arrived in a shoebox sized parcel full of packaging with the two drill bits in a bag in the corner. God knows how much it cost them to send that one to me. #-o #-o

Speaking to another couple of folks it seems they're more likely to place small orders with Axi whilst the postage is only £1 so perhaps it has made a difference.

As for the likes of Wickes and B&Q, I'd just be glad if they would just sell decent quality 1/2 and 1/4 sheets of ply but they can't even manage to do that. Self delaminating Chinese ply is worse than useless for anyone except builders it seems.

I invariably look at total cost including postage, plus other factors that are relevant to me, such as next day, not having to sign for it etc. I will sometimes pay a bit more if I get the delivery service I want. This is where amazon prime scores for me: one click ordering, next day delivery, zero hassle returns and refunds. I find prime pays for itself in spades, but then I use the video etc as well.

If you need good ply then you should try the stuff here? It's a bit lighter than the worst U.K. stuff. That's because it full of holes!

I was spoiled before we moved over here because just down the road from where we lived is Severn Ply. They always had very good quality stuff and a hell of a lot of the sheets I got from them was 12mm cut into 10X12" rectangles and they always gave me a good price on it!

Ply here, even from wood yards, is just so much merde (c r a p in French)
