After much deliberation I have decided to get a Axminster CT1502 surface planer and a portable thicknesser, properly Makita 2012NB or the Axminster CT330. I was looking at p/t but seen so many negatives about removable table alignment troubles I decided to go down the separates route. The 150mm wide tables could be a problem but that should not pop up to often. Can always make a sled for the thicknesser. Space is a big problem.
Does anyone have one of these machines, The planer spec says that it has built wheels. Is this machine easy to move a round or should I get a mobile base for it.
Many thanks
Mick

Thanks for the info Carl. The jet looks nice but needs a 16amp supply. Had enough of a problem getting the 32amp ring supply to the garage via kitchen and utility room.

I have the same combo as Carl, and it is on a mobile base. Good little planer- the only limiting factor to me is the 6" capacity.

I could be persuaded to part with it if you were looking at the secondhand option. I plan to upgrade to a 10" machine although not decided on quite what yet. I am spoiled by the 3 knife block on the axi machine- it seems that you have to spend a lot to get this on wider machines.

Sorry mine doesn't have built in wheels. It is just on a rutlands or axi mobile base.

It will probably depend on your floor- if it is smooth the built in wheels will be fine, if it is not then they may or maynot struggle a bit- you could always fit a mobile base afterwards- I can't imagine it would be difficult.

Well I have done it. Went out today and bought a Makita 2012NB thicknesser and the Axminster CT1502 is coming tomorrow.
I shall now be self-efficient in preparing timber. I have now got my workshop how I want it apart from a Camvac twin motor dust extractor coming next week.
Good times. Can now spend money on timber !
