Could one of you 1628 owners tell me the distance from the lathe centre to the top of the stand ?
I am about to build a 'cupboard / stand' for one but cannot find the centre height on the axe site.

14.5" or 370mm approx. Total height, which i think you probably mean, is 18" or 458mm.

Edit: Ah, I suspect to want to work out the centre height for comfortable working. I like mine to be a couple of inches above the normally recommended elbow height.

Edit 2: You could come & try it to see if it's suitable.

Thanks for that Robbo, yes it is so I can work out the centre height for comfortable working. It can be a bit tricky as I need the 'work area' to be a given distance from my eyeline to focus on it. I can now build a mobile stand to bring it to more or less the right height then fine tune it when I get it. ( don't ask )

Make the stand lower than needed as you can always add blocks rather than try and alter a already constructed stand
That is the idea but you need to know the base to centre height before you know how short is to short

Tomorrow I will do some measuring for you. I have to say I use a duckboard beside the lathe to make the height easier. as mine is on the optional legs. needed them as I wanted the extension bed.

Oddly; today I used the extended bed for a project I would never had thought would need it. Is my second spindle turning attempt.

Still a WIP, but I will post it as there may possibly be something there to give somebody a thought.
