Hi, This happened today whilst I was mortising some EU oak, I bought it in October 2009. has anyone else had this happen or am I just lucky?
I ended up using my ingenuity so that I could finish the job.

I reckon it is a mixture of poor design and possibly poor heat treatment in manufacture unless the operation lever part is a casting in which case it is wrong materials too!

There are huge forces involved with you applying a few hundred Newtons force on the end of half metre bar getting multiplied by 30 times or so by the bar onto those poor little castellations.

Try a PM to Richard@axminster and see what he can offer.

I have the exact same machine...will watch that in future.

Sorry to see this happen...as Bob says...try Axi...I am sure they will do something...it is a manufacturing or design fault by the look of it...not operator error

Thanks guys, I've sent Axminster an e-mail.....I'll see what happens

Don't know if it's metal, looks like cast but when I think about it , it also looks like the compound on the back of my veritas dovetail saw.
