Was thinking I needed a proper work bench but realised I have plenty of surfaces to work on so just need something to attach a wood vice too.

Have a single garage with an old table, old kitchen unit and best of all a 7 foot long old kitchen top balanced on two substantial pieces of furniture with a 30" gap inbetween. Even have 6 heavy 18" wide and made from 16mm ply drawers which I rescued thinking the wood would come in handy.

So thinking I could build a carcass for the drawers and attach a vice to the top. One drawer wide would be cheaper and quicker to make but the two drawer wide option would obviously be more substantial for a wood vice.

If I went down the one drawer wide route I could leave the base hollow and fill with gravel / bricks and attach it to the wall.

Good idea / Bad idea ?

What would you make the carcass out of ?

Yes that's very similar.

Think the next step is to put pen to paper.
