Just happened to look upwards this afternoon. :( That's an oak beam as well.

So do I treat everything wooden in there ? There's an awful of soft and hardwood up there.

Seems to be two schools of thought. Something nice and organic like Cuprinol or all soft and fuzzy and water-based like Constrain.

Cuprinol works wonders for me :)

Is it active or dormant? Can you hear little teeth gnashing away or the sound of snoring?

Looking at all that frass I'd say very active. Do you spray all the surrounding timber as well?

Personally I'd give everything in the same room at least two coats and then leave it for a week before doing anything else (with any windows partly open where practical).

I used the cuprinol dedicated product on a 400 year old cottage some years ago and it worked very well. Does stink so keep well ventilated and do give all wood a go not just the frass areas

I checked every 3 years or so and you got the occasional one but it killed the vast majority

I would vacuum the beams first (makes it easy to spot any new activity) inject constrain in to all the flight holes then brush a generous amount all over any wood
Sryringes and blunt needles can be bought on eBay and constain from Historyonics
I don't use the solvent based fluid they stink for ever
