my local timber yard(hymor) has just been brought out by these. has anyone got any experience with them? what benefits will they bring? hymor I've always found good but overpriced at my level. and a bit awkward to buy from.
as an example I phoned the other week asking about there prices of quebec yellow pine. there price was 20% dearer if I brought 1/2 a pack! also the small timber yard I use let me pick what I want. I'm guessing hymor operate a generous discount if your buying loads(not much use to me though!)

I have used Lavers in Hull for practically everything for years. The main reason is I live out in the sticks and they do free delivery if you have an account (and spend enough). They are out my way three times a week so I can generally place an order one day and get it the next. I never really check their prices too closely but when I have they are about the same as others. I trust them to send out decent stuff as it only goes back if it's rubbish.

I have never been to the depot so not sure how it works for picking your own timber out.

Any problems have always been sorted quickly by them but as I say the main reason I use them is they stock all I need and delivery is free where it would take me half a day to drive there, select the timber and drive back.

I use Lavers for bits and pieces because the Leeds depot is next to my office. I dont buy much in general, and I buy less than I would from AL because they are a pain to deal with on the sales counter. The prices are horrendous for small quantities, even up to a few cubic feet. The stock is variable, I have looked at oak where it was difficult to get enough decent stuff from half a pack (yellow staining or defects in every board). It is necessary to call for a price first and generally speaking when I do I then end up going somewhere else instead. shame because the yard staff are very helpful.

it's strange how people gravitate towards different styles of supplier. my ply man is a one man band his prices are superb and he will deliver for a fair price. he only does ply though quality specialist stuff(birch marine phenolic)?
heaths are a small supplier but have some decent stuff. much of what he supplies is for certain companies but he sell it to others very fairly.esp small outfits. I do have a need for specialist sheet material supplies like mfc and hidrofuogo tricoya.several suppliers in Stoke though not sure how it works or who's best

Is odd how it works out. I think my options are basically kellaway (builders merchants but they stock medite now and are local so easy to get to), AL, avonply in Bristol and Davies timber in brum. Would love to have a proper timber yard near me.

Need to get about 8 sheets of birch in soon so will see who can do what. Might also see how much a cut list would be.
