Hi all

I would like to add a post with tables, a la Word, and I can't work out how to do it.

Does anybody have any examples please?

Thanks
Neil

PS I tried this bit of html but it didn't do anything. (Just seen html is off) Edit, Charley has just enabled html, but the row command is not working. The row command must be in lower case.

<TABLE border="1" align="center">
<tr>
<TD>Heading 1</TD>
<TD>Heading 2</TD>
</tr>
<tr>
<TD>Description 1</TD>
<TD>Description 2</TD>
</tr>
</TABLE>

Code:
<TABLE border="1" align="center">
<tr>
<TD>Heading 1</TD>
<TD>Heading 2</TD>
</tr>
<tr>
<TD>Description 1</TD>
<TD>Description 2</TD>
</tr>
</TABLE>
And this BBcode

Code:
[table] [row] [cell] Heading 1[/cell] [cell] Heading 2[/cell] [/row]
[row] [cell] Item 1[/cell] [cell] Description 1[/cell] [/row]
[row] [cell] Item 2[/cell] [cell] Description 2[/cell] [/row]
[/table]

I've tried before (unsuccessfully), and I've also searched for a php tutorial on it (unsuccessfull). I'd be very interested in anyone getting it working.

Ahh sorry, just reread - you are talking about tables - I was using the "list" button.

I may be wrong but I have a feeling that tables are not directly supported in bbcode, there are hacks to implement them but they need to be installed obviously.

The BBcode guide doesn't mention them - I think rendering them as an image and including that might be the easiest way short of a direct method.

Here you go.

  • Item 1
  • Item 2
  • etc

Code:
[list]
[*] Item 1
[*] Item 2
[*] etc
[/list]

  1. list item 1
  2. list item 2

Code:
[list=1]
[*]list item 1
[*]list item 2
[/list]

  • list item 1
  • list item 2

Code:
[list=a]
[*]list item 1
[*]list item 2
[/list]
Cheers
Neil

Hi Chris

Thanks, I've been editing my original post and since Charley switched on html it's all ok. You only need to ensure that your row commands are in lower case.

Thanks
Neil

Hi Chris

Your mission, should you accept it, is to answer the following questions which have me baffled: -

  1. How do you reduce the number of blank lines prior to a table?
  2. How do you control the size of font used in a table?

Cheers

You need to add a font tag into every 'td' tag...

Code:
<table width="200" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
  <tr align="center">
    <td><font color="#0000FF" size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
    <td><font color="#CC0000" size="3" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><b>font</b></font></td>
    <td><font color="#0000FF" size="4" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
  </tr>
  <tr align="center">
    <td><font color="#000000" size="4" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
    <td><font color="#CCCCCC" size="5" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><b>font</b></font></td>
    <td><font color="#0099FF" size="6" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
  </tr>
</table>[/quote]<table width="200" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
  <tr align="center">
    <td><font color="#0000FF" size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
    <td><font color="#CC0000" size="3" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><b>font</b></font></td>
    <td><font color="#0000FF" size="4" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
  </tr>
  <tr align="center">
    <td><font color="#000000" size="4" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
    <td><font color="#CCCCCC" size="5" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><b>font</b></font></td>
    <td><font color="#0099FF" size="6" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
  </tr>
</table>
<table width="200" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tr align="center">
<td><font color="#0000FF" size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
<td><font color="#CC0000" size="3" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><b>font</b></font></td>
<td><font color="#0000FF" size="4" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
</tr>
<tr align="center">
<td><font color="#000000" size="4" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
<td><font color="#CCCCCC" size="5" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><b>font</b></font></td>
<td><font color="#0099FF" size="6" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">font</font></td>
</tr>
</table>

I'm not sure about the spaces before the table though :?

Neil, I dunno. In fact there seem to be very few HTML tags that actually work at all.
I had come to the same conclusion. Thanks for all of your help.
