Hi

I've got the opportunity to buy a Wadkin Ber 2 for not a lot. I've done a bit of research on it and seems to be a solid machine but it can only make tenons up to around 50mm. Has anyone got one of these or know if its possible to make longer tenons?

Is the sliding table a reasonably easy find as this 1 doesn't have it.

Thanks in advance

Won't the length of the tenons depend on the tooling?
I have a BER 2 & though I've not cut tenons on it I'm sure I could cut deeper than 50mm

Cheers

I would suggest that the depth of the tenon will depend on whether you use one or two passes

If you are happy to use two passes and your machine allows (but not all do) you can cut the tenon over the block up to at least the dia of the block. In addition with the right tooling (have a look at page 74 of Axminsters 2013 catalogue cutter 66 and 67 however not shown on their website) you can cut a shoulder scribe and use the cutter inverted to cut the comparable mould on your stock.

If you only want to carry out one pass then your tenon depth will depend on the distance from the cutting edge of the block to just shy of the spindles shaft (inc spacer blocks which are usually approx 50mm dia) which may be of use for door and window frames but not suitable for door construction if you intend to have through tenons

i.e. (Diameter of block - 50)/2 = depth of tenon

hope this helps
