Does anyone know the Airshield pro protection level P2/P3? Or micron size it says it will filter.

I have the airace which is P2 but i'm thinking about changing to something that's p3 as i'll be doing more sanding work soon.
I might just get a 3M non powered respirator. It's a shame the airace doesn't have p3 option.

When I did a review of it in 2008 this was the spec. But may well have been upgraded.

Trend Airshield pro. 920 gram (1115 gram total in use)
Battery pack 195 gram (8hr) charge in helmet, additional charging dock available.#
Filters* En12941:1999 TH 2 P (£20)
Eye impact EN166:2002 1 3 B (repl. O/lays ~£17.50 (10))
Humidity up to 95%
Noise 70db.
# Guide notes say 14 hrs charge for 8 hr battery, no indication of charge state.

With dust masks you need to take into account risk of reverse flow, I.E sucking in dust around the edges of the mask/face shield, The filter rating is of little relevance if you can suck in dirty air around the mask. Hence the importance of air flow rate and it is part of the certification for air fed masks.

I think I'll get one of the trend 3m probably 7500.

If i ever get a powered one it would probably be one of the ones where the battery and fan are on the belt. Those seem very expensive though, so maybe in the future.

I have had the airshield pro for a month or so now and I am reasonably happy with it. In terms of filtration ( I don't know the actual facts ) I can sit in a visible cloud of saw dust and breath what feels like cold clean air. I am surprised that it is 70 decibels, it doesn't sound like it to me, I quickly forget I have iy on from the noise point of view.
The only drawback for me, and it isn't really a major problem, is that it doesn't stay still on your head when you lean forward. There are plenty of adjustment points and maybe I haven't got them quite right yet but it seems that the only way to stop it moving it to have it uncomfortably tight. I could spend time fixing it but as I say, not a major issue.

I have both the airshield and the 7500 and I now wear the 3M non powered when sanding because its lighter and easier. Also like Graham, I don't like the way the airshield moves when you lean down. Also you cant really have it with mask up for any length of time without it being uncomfortable and/or restricting your view.

If your planning on making lots of dust then I would not use a powered respirator and go for a mask. I have used numerous powered ones from the 3m dustmaster, airshield and found that you still get dust in when theirs a lot about.
