As part payment for some work I did a few years ago I was given a load of timber that I now know to be Agba from Western Africa.

This and a load of Pine timbers came out of a newsagents warehouse that was pulled down in the middle of Nottingham, the boards were used as shelving for storing papers and magazines and had been in the building for at least 40 years.

Does anyone know anything about the Agba timber, what it would be suitable for etc. The Agba and Pine boards are roughly 1" thick, 6" to 8" wide and about 3' long.

As a turner it is of no use to me and as I have a larger workshop compressor coming along I badly need the storage space, so I'd like to advertise it with some kind of description.

Regards....Mike

From my "wood identification and use":-

Also known as Nigerian cedar.Low bending strength, medium crushing strength.Nails ok,screws and glues well.Takes polish well.Heartwood is durable, but sapwood vulnerable to furniture beetle.
Typical uses;boatbuilding,flooring,furniture,coffins,marine plywood.
Unsuitable for food use,as the resin can be odourous.

Hope this helps.

Hello
Do you still have the boards? I would be interested in buying them if you do.
Thank you

You realise that post is 12 years old?
And the OP has not been on the forum since 2009?
