Sean Emmett was a well known and much admired British Superbike rider. He had a major drink problem which he faced up to publicly but never conquered. A couple of years ago he was held in Dubai for 6 months or so over the suspicious death of his wife. Whilst on honeymoon she fell from the balcony of their room whilst he was present. There was a big campaign at the time to get the 'grieving' Brit home.

The Dubai police eventually released him without charge, as soon as he arrived back in the UK he was arrested by the British cops for questioning, but again released. The entire British bike race community sympathised with him and were solidly on his side. It seems he made a fool out of everyone.

He's now been jailed for 12 weeks for beating up his current girlfriend.

That's the classic Moto GP rider? I remember reading about his late wife and the doubt surrounding the case.
Apparently he did not like the way his girlfriend was eating her fish supper. They've now become engaged and hope to marry soon.
Hope he can stay off the sauce.

Not sure about it being the classic rider Noel.

If she can get through the honeymoon she'll be fine......she must be nuts

Same guy, rode the old Lucky Strike RG500 Suzi in races similar to the Classic TT.

I wasn't aware of the story but I thought I recognised the name in the headline. I remember it from when I used to visit tracks for BSB events
